Emotional Cereals
There is something inherently personal about pouring oneself a bowl of cereal.
It’s the first meal we prepared for ourselves. And cereal boxes scream at me, pulsating energy from the shelf. As a child, they kept me engaged with bright colors, wondrous creatures, and puzzles. As an adult, they offer me a sensible matte finish and the promise of a long and meditative life. Marketing plays subtly upon our aspirations and insecurities. This series imagines a sort of endgame marketing strategy where they finally say the quiet part loud. What would it mean to see your emotional world commodifed? What happens when our fear, embarrassment, and anxiety are sold back to us in sugar-frosted bites? My Emotional Cereals play with that idea, delving into and exploiting the built-up angst of their consumer.
